The Dragon Egg is a block that spawns on top of the Bedrock portal created by the defeat of the Enderdragon in The End. Left or right-clicking causes it to teleport to a place nearby, when teleporting and falling it will create particles similar to that of an enderman or a portal. Hitting one with a pickaxe will destroy it, this is no longer the case as of 1.0.0 .

The Dragon Egg is an item first mentioned by Notch on the 27th of October, 2011 on which Notch was supposedly working before the feature freeze[1][2], though it seems to have been worked on during it.
The Dragon Egg was first introduced in Beta 1.9 Pre-release 6 (November 11th 2011).
As of Minecraft 1.0, the Dragon Egg has no crafting use.
When the Dragon Egg is hit with either mouse button, it teleports. The only ways to obtain the Dragon Egg without inventory hacking are to either push the egg with a piston, or place a torch or slab under the block that the egg rests on, and then destroying that block, or use a pickaxe, start swinging it, and then target the Egg without stopping. All three methods causes the egg to drop as a resource.
Dragon Eggs are affected by gravity and drop to the ground when placed in the air.
